Kintore is an ideal base for enjoying the great outdoors.
Located between the two great rivers of Aberdeenshire – the Dee and the Don – there are a wealth of outdoor opportunities on both Donside and Royal Deeside. Great country, hill and forest walks abound with the spectacular mountains of the Cairngorm National Park within easy reach.
Described by the National Geographic Society as “possibly Britain’s best-loved hill”, Bennachie is Kintore’s most local hill, with the visitor centre being just 10 miles from Kintore.
It’s said that there is a golf course for every day of the month within easy reach.
Kintore Golf Club is an acclaimed 18-hole course at Balbithan in Kintore. Nearby there are courses at Kemnay and Inverurie.
Among the best known courses in the area are Royal Aberdeen and Trump International Golf Links Scotland – both around 30 minutes from Kintore.
For lovers of castles, Kintore is an ideal base with, literally, hundreds of castles within Aberdeenshire.
Within Kintore itself are the ruins of Halforest Castle, a Royal Hunting lodge built around the 13th or 14 century.
Castle Fraser – Scotland’s most elaborate Z-plan castle – is just seven miles from Kintore. Also within easy reach are Crathes Castle, Craigievar Castle, Haddo House, Pitmedden Gardens, Fyvie Castle, Dunnottar Castle and many more.
