The Bothie amazed at interest in sign language

The Bothie – the youth initiative of community charity Action Kintore – has been amazed by the response to its classes in British Sign Language (BSL).

Within days of proposing the class, more than 60 people had expressed an interest in learning BSL.

“We were blown away at the response last week for the BSL classes,” says The Bothie’s Youth and Volunteer Co-ordinator, Rachel Lewis, “so we've added an extra class.”

There will now be two classes each week for six weeks run in The Bothie and, to satisfy the huge interest, it is expected there will be another session of BSL classes in the autumn.

“We have to restrict it to 14 people per class as we want you to learn as much as you can,” Rachel explains, “so places will be booked on the day as a first come, first serve basis.

“If this project is a hit, we will run it again after the October holidays so that more people can join.”
