Action for Kintore

Action Kintore is a charity dedicated to providing facilities for the community of Kintore. But, what do you know about Action Kintore?

This article was produced to explain more about Action Kintore, what it is, what it does and how you can help.

DID YOU KNOW?

Action Kintore Limited, is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity, with a board of Kintore volunteers set up in 2009 to relieve the needs of young people in Kintore and district by bringing together young people, local authorities, voluntary and other organisations.

DID YOU KNOW?

It started out holding meetings in the Town House, but found it limiting in the scope it could offer local youths.

It was decided to raise funds for a purpose built building to support the youth in Kintore.

DID YOU KNOW?

The Bothie, is a purpose built community hub in the heart of Kintore, opened in December 2013. Situated in Allendale Gardens, behind Moar’s Furniture Store and Ceann Torr Cafe and Restaurant, is a special environmentally friendly construction, built with straw bales covered by a lime mortar.

The Bothie is home to a range of youth and community groups and with the help of volunteers and youth workers, we are able to set up and provide a safe, fun environment for the young people of Kintore and district. Workers do sessions and provide advice and support on specific topics and issues that are established through needs assessments and informal chats with young people, thus enabling them to deal with certain situations more effectively.

DID YOU KNOW?

The Bothie can be rented out hourly for community or leisure organisations or family events and is used by many, including an Art Group, Yoga Classes, Local Angling Club, Council Departments and individual, birthday parties and other events.

DID YOU KNOW?
The Bothie youth evenings and events are all free of charge, and the building and support staff are funded entirely from grants and fundraising, so it needs all the help it can get to support and maintain the services provided for these young people. Please support them.

Action Kintore Limited is now applying for a Community Asset Transfer to take a lease on the beautiful and historic Kintore Town House.

Kintore Town House Feasibility Study
The plan to bring Kintore Town House back into community use

The plan, if successful is to install a rear glazed atrium and lift to enable disabled access, upgrade both floors to provide function/events room, bar, kitchen and toilets, an area for displays relating to our Roman, Pict, Agricultural history, perhaps a feature around the fact that it was used as a jail in the early years and a commercial venture to bring the Town House to life.

This will require a lot of fundraising, so your help and support will be needed to bring this to fruition and with committed and enthusiastic people Kintore can do this!, so GET INVOLVED please. Contact brianjohnstone54@btinternet.com or call 07710 409629.

So, look out for news on this exciting venture by Action Kintore Limited, an organisation with Kintore at its heart.
